Today’s Topic: Back to School/Learning Freebie (in honor of school starting back up soon, come up with your own topic that fits the theme of school or learning! Books that take place at school/boarding school/during study abroad, books you read in school, textbooks you liked/didn’t like, non-fiction books you loved or want to read, etc.)
Hosted by: That Artsy Reader Girl
So, I’m sticking by the “freebie” idea for this week and not choosing a specific qualifier for my list. Some of my choices feature schools, others are about teachers or governesses.
The Bridge -A student wins a scholarship to a Parisian boarding school only to discover her nemesis was one of the other winners. This one show up on my TTT lists frequently, but that’s because I love it so much.
The Silent Governess – A young governess gets caught up in a mystery involving her employer. A good cross between Austen style writing mixed with Bronte-esque gothic mystery.
The Strange House Series -The titular home is a school for young girls with unique abilities who don’t quite fit into Regency era English society. My Review of the first book.
A Different Blue -An student-teacher romance that is somehow appropriately written, so as not to be the least bit offensive. My Review
A Song for Summer -On the eve of WWII, a young English woman runs away to work at the Hallendorf School in Austria where the students are all a bunch of hooligans.
Dear Mr. Knightley -I love this epistolary novel about an anonymous benefactor who gives a young writer a scholarship to attend college with the sole requirement being that she write him letters.
Charming the Troublemaker -Alex is banished to teach at a small Appalachian college for bad behavior.
Settling Up -A fun little rom-com about a statistics professor who finds herself attracted to her opposite, a tattooed black-jack dealer. My Review
Pride, Prejudice and Cheese Grits -An updated Southern re-telling of the familiar story. A history professor’s new colleague is a famous historian who lambasted her new book.
The Charmed Life Series -I feel like this series shows up a lot on my lists, but I love it so much. A fish out of water story about a spoiled rich girl who moves to small town Arkansas. She creates a niche for herself at school by solving mysteries as the school reporter.
Head in the Clouds -A romantic young woman takes a job as a governess at a remote Texas ranch to a traumatized young girl.
Beautiful -High school is tough enough with all its’ peer pressure without having to worry about your appearance. When an accident leave a beautiful young girl scarred, she finds out who her real friends are at school.
What are some of your back to school themed books?
I love Eva Ibbotson but haven’t read A Song for Summer. Thanks for sharing – it’s going on my TBR right now!
Oh, I’m glad to find another Ibbotson fan.
I haven’t read any of the books in your post this week… All new ones to explore!
Here’s a link to my TTT post for this week: https://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2018/08/top-ten-tuesday-back-to-schoollearning.html
I think my favorite books that are set in school are Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins and the Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter.
This is an interesting selection, by the way!

I don’t think I’ve read either of those suggestions. I’ll have to add them to my TBR.
