12 Delights of Christmas Tag

I’ve noticed a few of my favorite bloggers participating in this tag started by Heidi  at Along the Brandywine.  I’m always up for a good Christmas tag, so I’m jumping in.

1) A favorite Christmas tradition?

Gosh, there are several. But maybe one of the most memorable was created by my dad. Our last, biggest gift each Christmas was always found through a treasure hunt. He would write and wrap up short rhyming clues that would lead us all over the house until we finally found our gift.

2) Say it snowed at your domicile, would you prefer to go out or stay curled up inside?

Having been born and raised in Texas, I’ve never been a fan of the cold. As I get older, snow is less magical to me than it was when I was a kid. I prefer to enjoy it from the cozy warmth of the indoors.

3) Tea or hot chocolate?
Definitely hot chocolate!
4) Favorite Christmas colors (i.e. white, blue, silver, red and green etc)?
As I’ve written elsewhere, I’m a holiday traditionalist and love the combination of red, green and gold with white lights.
5) Favorite kind of Christmas cookie?
Gingerbread cookie.

My sister and I always enjoy making and decorating gingerbread men together. It’s as much for the experience and time together as for the cookie itself.

6) How soon before Christmas do you decorate (more specifically, when does your tree go up)?
I’m one of those obnoxious people who start celebrating way too early. My Christmas music goes on October 1st. But I wait until early to mid November to put up the tree and the other Christmas decor. It just brings me so much joy to look at it.
7) Three favorite traditional Christmas carols?
What Child is This, O Holy Night, O Come All Ye Faithful. I’ve never heard a bad rendition of the first two and the third I’ve loved since I was a child.
8) A favorite Christmas song (i.e. something you might hear on the radio)?
Mary Did you Know. This one has grown on me over the years. It sounds a bit sad, but it builds to such a beautiful climax which gives those singing it a chance to show the power of their voice.
9) A favorite Christmas movie?
This is like asking me to choose my favorite book. Impossible! So, instead I’ll give you one of my favorites that I’ve seen the most; Christmas in Connecticut.
10) Have you ever gone caroling?
No, but it is on my bucket list of holiday activities.
11) Ice skating, sledding, skiing, or snowboarding?
Can I say all of the above? Growing up in Texas there wasn’t much opportunity for any of these activities, but I’ve done them all, except snowboarding. I really love skiing as it is the closest thing to flying on the ground as you can get.
12) Favorite Christmas feast dish?
Ooh! Tough one. Probably my mom’s hashbrown casserole. Or my dad’s Christmas morning waffles with peanut butter, strawberries and whipped cream.
For anyone else who would like to participate, here are the questions. I would love to see your answers.
